Paul Kent
Director in the Property Litigation team, I deal with a wide range of real estate problems. One day I could be advising on a dispute for a nuclear power station and the next with environmental protestors invading a strategic energy facility. I aim to avoid difficult situations for my clients.

Best brains in ...
Heading off a problem before it becomes a crisis.
Career highlights ...
I've worked on a number of leading cases including Hampshire Waste Services v Persons Unknown, a cutting-edge injunction against an anticipated invasion of incinerator premises by protesters. This was the first time an English court allowed an injunction to be taken out against unknown people to prevent them doing something they hadn't yet started and maybe were not going to do. It has now become part of English law and has been relied on many times.
Most challenging job ...
Resisting an injunction application to stop the development of a livestock market. The case was more complicated than you might expect and involved domestic and European competition law as well as a 13th-century Royal Charter held at the British Museum. It took a year, but we won, and recovered nearly £100,000 in costs for the client with only one day in court.
Going the extra mile ...
A major power station operator was challenging a joint development agreement with my client. The other side consistently ignored the terms of agreement, so we took steps to halt the development. I worked throughout the four-day Easter break. The hard work paid off and we won. The client was pleased too!
Giving a client a competitive edge ...
With over fifteen years' experience in industry before becoming a lawyer, I hope I bring a commercial perspective to my work. When advising on a power station dispute, I helped provide the client with a strong platform from which to negotiate a far better deal than the original one.
Things written about me ...
Legal 500 and Chambers have described me as 'capable and measured', 'straightforward, clear and succinct', having a 'gentlemanly approach' and a 'great sense of humour'.
