Best brains in..

Complex corporate transactions, public takeovers, equity markets regulation.

Highlight of your career so far?

There have been many highlights at Wragge & Co. Most recently, advising De Rigo on its agreement with Alliance Boots to merge Dollond & Aitchison and Boots Opticians to create a combined business with almost 700 branches and more that 5,000 employees.

Most challenging job?

Acting for the board of Baggeridge Brick on the offer by Wienerberger to acquire the company. A deal which took a year from start to finish and had everything – a Competition Commission clearance, a competitive 'virtual' bidder, many twists and turns in its structure and price and, ultimately, a good result for the company's shareholders.

What about outside the UK?

Well over half my work involves international corporates or funds, either as buyers, sellers or targets.

Definition of great client service?

Responsiveness, hard work, plain speaking and an honest opinion on what you would do if you were the client.

When have you given a client a real competitive edge?

Every time I have succeeded in demystifying a legal process to allow a client to make a properly informed commercial decision.

What's your single greatest contribution to Wragge & Co's corporate responsibility?

Through sponsorship for various events, raising a five figure sum for Sense, the UK's largest deafblind charity.

What's been written or said about you that you're most proud of?

On my approach to work, my favourite was in Chambers UK, which was 'very laid-back but very good'.
